Constantinos Sinanis: Meet the Greek Who Brought Alexa’s Voice to Space

He turned scientific fantasy into reality by bringing Alexa’s voice to space. Constantinos Sinanis, an acoustic and computer systems engineer who has worked with major U.S. tech companies like Amazon, HP, Harman-Samsung, Synaptics, MeyerSound, and Crestro, is the Greek professional involved in the Artemis I – Callisto space program—a collaboration between NASA, Lockheed-Martin, and Amazon. This project successfully fulfilled Jeff Bezos’ vision of enabling astronauts to issue voice commands through Alexa that would be executed by onboard systems. Speaking to APE, Sinanis emphasized that this experience was like turning scientific fiction into reality. As Acoustic Design Lead for integrating Alexa into the Orion spacecraft, he faced immense pressure during the pandemic when many attempts had failed before him. He insisted on rigorous testing at Houston’s Orion mockup despite challenges, ensuring no room for error in space missions. Over 15 years in top American tech firms, including working as a Distinguished Technologist at HP, Sinanis collaborated closely with giants such as Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, Dolby, DTS, Waves, and others globally. Originally from Greece, economic instability pushed him to move to the U.S. in 2010, where he lived in various cities while contributing significantly to technological advancements. Looking ahead, Sinanis aims to return permanently to Greece to contribute his extensive knowledge and connections to education, production, and research, hoping to drive progress in his homeland.
