A Respected Figure in Greece’s Construction Sector

In a tribute issued by the ABAX Group, Kouvaras was described as a widely respected figure in Greece’s construction industry — not only within ABAX but across the broader sector. The announcement highlighted his diligence, strategic thinking, and deep expertise as defining traits that earned him broad recognition.

Professional Legacy

Born in Arta, Kouvaras completed his secondary education there before graduating from the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1968.

In 1986, he co-founded Technical Company ABAX S.A., which later evolved into the ABAX Group. For four decades, he served continuously on the Group’s Board of Directors. Since 2020, he held the role of Executive Deputy Chairman of the Board.

Kouvaras was also the founding President of VOLTERA S.A. and served as President of IXION Energy. He was a member of the Boards of Directors of Attiki Odos S.A. and Attikes Diadromes S.A. from their inception.

Leadership Beyond ABAX

His leadership extended to key industry associations. From 2010 to 2013, he chaired the Board of Directors of STEAT (Association of Higher-Rank Technical Companies). Earlier, he served three consecutive terms (1997–2005) as President of STEIT (Association of 8th-Class Technical Companies).

The ABAX Group’s management and employees have expressed their profound and sincere condolences, along with unwavering support, to Kouvaras’s family and loved ones.
