The European Commission has strongly condemned Russia’s latest large-scale attack on Ukraine, stating that Moscow shows no interest in a ceasefire or ending its aggressive war. Speaking today (04.07.2025), Commission spokesperson for foreign affairs, Aneta Hiberner, said: ‘Last night’s Russian attack on Ukraine is one of the most brutal since the beginning of their offensive war, involving 530 unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles.’
She added: ‘This massive attack once again proves that Russia is not interested in a ceasefire, nor in ending its aggressive war.’ The assault left at least 23 people injured in Kyiv, with smoke and debris covering the city as rescue operations continued.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the strikes as ‘deliberately massive and cynical,’ emphasizing that Russia must face consequences through sanctions and economic pressure. He stated: ‘For every such strike against people and human life, they must feel appropriate sanctions and other blows to their economy, revenues, and infrastructure.’
Meanwhile, Commission representative Paola Pigni reiterated comments made by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Denmark, where she called for Europe to strengthen its support for Ukraine following reports of halted U.S. weapons supplies. Von der Leyen emphasized the urgency of increasing military assistance and applying pressure on Putin to return to negotiations.
The EU reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Ukraine, pledging to boost aid and enhance European defense capabilities across the continent. As the conflict escalates, global attention remains focused on whether diplomatic efforts can bring about a resolution.
