Commercebank examines smaller possible agreements, states CEO

She turns her interest in possible smaller deals to create value for shareholders, but does not repudiate a possible takeover by UniCredit, bank CEO Bettina Orlop said today (21.1205). “We assess certain options of acquisitions and mergers for us, but these are real acquisitions, smaller to make our value proposal better,” said Commerzbank CEO at Bloomberg during the World Economic Forum in Davos. CORVERSE Orlop has increased profitability and payment targets, as it tries to convince investors that the bank is better as an autonomous company. She has planned to publicise more details of her strategy in a investor day next month. The German government has expressed its opposition to a possible takeover. UniCredit under CEO Andrea Orcell has continuously increased its share of the German bank in recent months and now controls 28%, mainly through derivatives. Orcell said in an interview at Bloomberg earlier today (21.1,2025) that he could leave any possible deal if he decides it’s not worth it.
