Colin Farrell is reportedly in negotiations to expand his presence in the DC cinematic universe by starring in ‘Sgt. Rock.’ According to Deadline, the star of ‘The Penguin’ is at the forefront for the lead role in this adaptation of the eponymous comic by director Luca Guadagnino. Initially, Daniel Craig was considered for the project but withdrew from discussions in February. Signs indicate that Colin Farrell will take on the leading role in the film. Sgt. Rock, created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, is a heroic squad leader in the U.S. Army during World War II. The character first appeared in 1959 in DC’s ‘Our Army at War.’ Past attempts to bring Sgt. Rock to the big screen featuring Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger were unsuccessful. The cinematic adaptation of ‘Sgt. Rock’ is being developed under the supervision of James Gunn and Peter Safran as part of the new DC cinematic universe. Justin Kuritzkes, known for ‘Challengers’ and ‘Queer,’ has taken on the screenplay. Farrell’s involvement depends on scheduling conflicts, as he is already committed to the second season of ‘Sugar’ on Apple TV+ and ‘The Ballad of a Small Player’ directed by Edward Berger. Filming is set to begin this summer in the UK.
