On the streets of Beijing, China, New Year’s was celebrated in a former steel mill in the western suburbs of the city, while in Shanghai, crowds of people gathered to see photorhythmic shows along the world-famous “Walk of the Waterfront” and other locations. New Year’s Eve, based on the Gregorian calendar, is not celebrated as much in China as elsewhere, with Chinese New Year, based on the Lunar calendar, being considered more important. The Chinese New Year of 2025, the year of the Snake, according to the Chinese calendar, is January 29. In Taiwan, thousands of viewers enjoyed a six-minute fireworks show and photorhythm show from the building-sighting “Taipei Skyscraper” or “Taipei 101”, which is 509 metres tall.
