in

A tragic accident occurred in the Neda Gorge when a 4-year-old boy fell from a height of 25 meters, losing his life on Sunday, May 11, 2025. According to the testimony of a tavern owner in the area, the child’s parents—a father from Guatemala and a mother from Germany—were slightly behind their son as he wandered off onto a dangerous path. The eyewitness recounted that the child was walking ahead freely and fell into the river after stepping into thin air near a small waterfall. During the fall, the child hit a tree. When help arrived, the boy was still alive but in critical condition, having been lifted by his father with another person’s assistance. The man described the path as perilous, warning about falling rocks from above in addition to the dangers below. He suggested improved safety measures for the trail leading to the waterfalls to prevent future incidents. Additionally, there were complaints about unlicensed individuals bringing tourists to see the waterfalls without proper safety precautions. Mr. Antonopoulos emphasized the need for measures ensuring everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of Neda safely.
