A 19-year-old German woman has reported being sexually assaulted in Chersonisos, Heraklion, on Monday, 6 July 2026, according to Greek news site creat24.gr. She told authorities that in the early hours of that day, she was raped by a man at an accommodation facility in the area.

Timeline and Circumstances

The woman said she met the man earlier that same day — 6 July — at a nightlife venue in Chersonisos. He later took her to local accommodation, where, she alleges, the assault occurred while she was in a state that left her unable to resist.

Shortly afterwards, a friend found her unconscious outside the nightclub and alerted authorities. She described the suspect’s physical characteristics to police the same day and underwent a forensic medical examination.

Investigation Delays and Developments

According to the complainant’s side, it reportedly took two full days for local authorities to initiate key investigative steps — including locating witnesses, formally summoning her friend for testimony, collecting CCTV footage, and launching preliminary inquiries.

She reportedly identified the suspect in a video provided to investigators. Authorities now have an image of the alleged perpetrator and are reviewing surveillance footage from across the wider Chersonisos area to confirm his identity and locate him.

Diplomatic Involvement

The young woman has since returned to Germany. Her family has expressed dissatisfaction with how the investigation has progressed. The German Consul in Heraklion, Georgios Kaloutsakis, has been informed, and — following a formal request — German authorities have become involved in the case within the past 24 hours.

Greek police sources confirm the investigation remains active, with efforts ongoing to identify and locate the suspect, who is still at large.
