A difficult morning is expected today (23.06.2025) for drivers in Athens as traffic nightmares return. Major routes including Kifisias, Mesogeion, Athens highway, and Attiki Odos are already in gridlock from very early this morning. The traffic chaos isn’t limited to these areas; drivers around Piraeus harbor are also experiencing significant delays. On Kifisos, kilometers-long queues have formed in both directions, from Aigaleo to Nea Ionia. Toward Piraeus, the congestion begins at Metamorfosi. On Kifisias, problems start on the uphill near Alexandras Avenue and extend up to Marousi, while downhill congestion stretches from Psychiko to Nea Filothei. Serious issues are also reported along Mesogeion in both directions. Attiki Odos sees delays reaching up to 30 minutes due to an accident towards Eleusis, past the Penteli junction. Delays vary depending on the route: 5-10 minutes exiting for Lamia, 20-25 minutes from Anthousa Junction to Kifisia Junction, and similar delays around Hymettus Periphery. Additionally, major roads like Katechaki, Alexandras, El. Venizelou near Kara, Vouliagmenos near Glyfada, and Poseidonos from Alimos to Flisvos Marina are all heavily congested. Central Athens streets are also seeing significant delays. On the Athens highway towards Corinth, problems begin at Chaidari and extend to the Peripheriaki Aigaleo. In the direction towards Athens, slow-moving traffic is observed from Elaionas to the city center.
