Chaos Erupts on Flight to Birmingham: Drunk Passenger Assaulted Cabin Crew Mid-Air

A harrowing video captures the moment a passenger was restrained after assaulting a cabin crew member aboard a flight from Spain to the UK. The incident caused panic among dozens of passengers and crew, as the man reportedly attacked a flight attendant during an hour-long outburst while the plane was preparing for landing. According to witnesses, the 49-year-old male passenger was intoxicated. This shocking event unfolded on Tuesday morning (May 27, 2025), during a flight from Gran Canaria to Birmingham. Ignoring repeated requests to remain seated, the passenger, identified as Paul Self, stood up to use the restroom before allegedly striking a flight attendant in the face. The terrifying ordeal left crew members shouting in desperation after failed attempts to subdue the unruly passenger. One crew member was forced to yell at passengers, “Sit down! Now!” in an effort to maintain order. Upon landing, police boarded the aircraft and arrested the 49-year-old, who raised his hands and said, “Arrest me.” Despite resisting arrest, officers managed to handcuff him, bringing the intense situation to an end. Passengers erupted into applause as he was removed from the plane. Paul Self now faces three counts of common assault and is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on June 10.
