Two municipal sanitation workers were hospitalized with chemical poisoning in Chania after unknown individuals dumped hazardous chemicals into a green waste bin. The incident occurred in late December in the Pyrgos area of Kounoupidiana. While emptying the bin, the workers came into contact with the substances, suffering acute respiratory poisoning and requiring urgent medical care at Chania General Hospital. Today (02.02.2026), the Municipal Council approved filing a formal complaint. According to ERT Chania, investigations are already focusing on specific professionals.
