Life-Threatening Incident in Kavros
The serious incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, 25 July 2026, in Kavros, Apokoronas, Chania. The toddler, visiting from Germany, was pulled unconscious from the pool at a villa where the family was staying.
According to reports by neakriti.gr, the child had momentarily escaped his parents’ attention. When they realized he was missing, they began frantically searching for him. Moments later, they discovered him motionless at the bottom of the villa’s pool—having been submerged for an estimated two to three minutes.
Mother’s Quick Action Saves His Life
His mother, a trained doctor, immediately began CPR. For nearly five minutes, she fought to restore his vital signs. Her efforts paid off: the boy regained signs of life just before emergency responders arrived.
An EKAB ambulance quickly reached the scene, and paramedics continued stabilizing the child on-site. He was first taken to Rethymno General Hospital. However, due to the severity of his condition—including reduced consciousness—he required intubation and was subsequently transferred to the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PA.G.N.I.).
