Intensive inspections were carried out in shops in Chania by a team from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). Two female officers, dressed casually with backpacks like tourists, conducted checks in businesses. According to reports from zarpanews.gr, these AADE inspectors approached customers who had just exited stores—including butchers, greengrocers, pharmacies, and pastry shops—asking whether receipts had been issued. They also entered the shops themselves to check documentation. Results of the inspections have not yet been disclosed, but such checks are expected to intensify in the coming period ahead of the peak tourist season, as part of a broader plan by AADE targeting popular tourist destinations.
