Chania: Re-examination of Porsche Driver’s Blood Sample for New Substances After Fatal Crash

It has been nearly two months since the tragic accident in Chania that claimed the life of 22-year-old Panagiotis and involved a 45-year-old businessman driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic drugs. The family of the young victim is still awaiting results from investigations that aim to shed light on every aspect of the tragedy. Through their legal representative, Christos Markogiannakis, they have requested a re-examination of the second blood sample of the accused. This request was accepted by the investigating judge, who issued an order for the re-examination at the Forensic Medical Service of Athens. The initial test conducted by the Heraklion Forensic Medical Service revealed that the driver had consumed substances without a prescription. ‘The judge accepted our request, and we are eagerly waiting for the results of the second blood analysis, as we believe there’s a strong possibility of detecting substances not found during the first examination. Based on testimonies from the 45-year-old’s partner, he frequently used cocaine, which was not initially detected,’ emphasized Mr. Markogiannakis. The timeline of the tragedy began when a passerby alerted emergency services about a man driving dangerously in Chania. Police arrived at the scene and found the 45-year-old with a friend, preparing to get back into his car. A breathalyzer test confirmed he was drunk. Despite this, he drove off again, eventually colliding head-on with Panagiotis’ car at around 02:45 AM. Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to revive Panagiotis, who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. During preliminary questioning, authorities discovered the driver did not possess a valid license, having lost it the previous October for driving under the influence.
