At a significant financial cost, the family of the missing 21-year-old German continues their search efforts. The man has been missing for 10 days in the area near Chania. His relatives have requested an international appeal for help to find the tourist lost in the Samaria Gorge, but this request has not yet been granted. This fact, combined with adverse weather conditions prevailing in the region, has stalled official search efforts. However, the family insists they will leave no stone unturned. With their own funds, they’ve coordinated a team of researchers, drone operators, search dogs, and even a helicopter to continue the search for the young man. Nevertheless, the cost of these operations is proving expensive, prompting the family to appeal for both financial support and assistance in the search. Early today, the mountaineering club of Chania began ascending towards Gigilos, according to flashnews.gr. According to the Fire Service, searches will resume when weather conditions improve. In their announcement, the family stated that the cost of the search has exceeded their expectations. Their request for Greece to issue an international call for help remains unfulfilled. Until this happens, they must fund all additional external assistance themselves. On Saturday evening, they met with the Chief of the Greek Police to discuss the status of their request for international help. They faced significant resistance but eventually succeeded in having the Chief sign their written request, which will be forwarded to the Head of Police in Chania. On Monday, a privately funded helicopter will begin assisting in the search, costing at least €20,000 for four hours of operation. The family also funds individuals using drones and search dogs, covering their flights, accommodation, and equipment needs. They urgently seek help and appreciate any donations.
