Chania: 75-Year-Old Fisherman Found Unconscious After Being Missing Since Saturday

A 75-year-old fisherman was found unconscious late Sunday evening (June 22, 2025) in the small harbor of Stavros Chryssikou Kissamos in Chania. The elderly man had gone missing since Saturday (June 21, 2025), while engaging in underwater fishing between Voulolimni and Elafonissi. His family reported his disappearance to authorities on Sunday afternoon, prompting an immediate search operation. According to information from the Maritime and Firefighting Coordination Centers, the fisherman was located by a small boat near a rugged and rocky area. Emergency response teams, including coast guard officers and EMODE mountain rescue personnel from Kantanos, rushed to the scene due to the challenging terrain. While efforts to retrieve him are ongoing, it is reported that the fisherman lost consciousness for unknown reasons.
