Two packages of marijuana and cocaine were allegedly smuggled into a prison by a cat in Costa Rica. Authorities immediately intercepted the feline to seize the drugs and locate the person who taped the packages to it. The incredible incident occurred at the Pococí prison when guards noticed the black-and-white cat moving suspiciously near the facility, carrying mysterious packages that turned out to be narcotics. The Justice Ministry of Costa Rica posted the arrest video on social media, which quickly went viral. Users nicknamed the cat ‘Narcomichi,’ combining ‘narco’ (drugs) and ‘michi,’ a term used in Spanish-speaking countries for cats. In Greek, we might call her ‘narkopsipsina.’ Footage shows officers carefully removing the drug packages from the cat’s body. Investigations revealed the cat carried 235 grams of cannabis and 67 grams of paste cocaine. ‘We believe the cat may have been trained to enter the prison areas from outside,’ said Fiorella Salazar Rocha, Minister of Justice of Costa Rica. ‘This smuggling method is not only unusual but also highly concerning, as it indicates a level of planning and exploitation of the animal for criminal activities.’ The cat was handed over to the National Animal Health Service for a health assessment while authorities work to identify those behind the scheme.
