Significant traffic delays are affecting the Attiki Odos motorway after a car caught fire near Menidi, in the Acharnes area of Athens. The incident occurred on the eastbound lanes—heading toward Athens International Airport—at the level of Demokratias Avenue.
Location and Response
According to the Hellenic Fire Service, the blaze involved a passenger vehicle on the Attiki Odos within the municipality of Acharnes, Attica. Six firefighters responded using two vehicles, and the fire was successfully extinguished.
Traffic Impact
Attiki Odos reported the incident as a road accident on the left-hand lanes heading toward the airport, near Demokratias Avenue. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the motorway operator warned of delays stretching from Ano Liosia to the Demokratias exit.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
