Capernaros: Cameras in Tempi and Platamon Tunnels Existed Since 2017

Lawyer Vasilis Capernaros has issued a clarification regarding the installation of cameras and surveillance systems in the Tempi and Platamon tunnels. In his statement titled ‘Response Regarding Cameras in the Tunnels,’ Capernaros addresses those questioning the authenticity of recent videos from the commercial railway before the conflict in Tempi. He asserts that cameras were installed as early as 2017, as per an agreement signed between the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) and the company he legally represents, Interstar. The statement reveals that Interstar signed a contract in 2017 with OSE to provide security services through technical means and install CCTV systems in both the Tempi and Platamon tunnels. According to the contract, analog cameras were placed at key locations, including outside the northern entrance of the Tempi tunnel and inside the southern face of the Platamon tunnel. These installations were upgraded in October 2023, replacing older cameras with high-definition models and adding thermal cameras and loudspeaker systems. Capernaros emphasizes that cameras have always been present at these sites, dismissing any contradictory claims as false.
