Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly described the tariffs announced by Donald Trump as an ‘existential threat’ to Canada. It is recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Clean Monday (03.03.2025) that 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico would come into effect on Tuesday (04.03.2025), with reciprocal tariffs starting from April 2. As Trump stated, Canada and Mexico have “no room for negotiation” to avoid these customs tariffs. “There is no more room for negotiation for Mexico and Canada. The customs tariffs are a fact. They will be enforced tomorrow,” he emphasized while speaking at the White House. “We know this represents an existential threat to us, and thousands of jobs in Canada are at risk,” highlighted Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly after Trump’s latest statements confirming the implementation of tariffs on Canada and Mexico. Meanwhile, Donald Trump also mentioned during his Clean Monday address that he would consider signing a free trade agreement with Argentina, referring to the Latin American country’s president, Javier Milei, as a “great leader.”
