‘They approached him, demanding his phone and anything else he had,’ said the father of the 18-year-old victim of a beating and robbery by a gang in Callithhea to newsit.gr. According to him, the fortunate aspect is that the juveniles who attacked his son did not have any dangerous weapons, which could have endangered his son’s life at that moment. ‘Fortunately, they didn’t pull out a knife or anything else that could have harmed him more. Around 15 people attacked him, and my son fainted due to the beatings but also because of fear. They met near the bridge, and then my son ran across it to escape them,’ he emphasized. The attack by the juvenile gang occurred shortly after 6:00 PM on Wednesday (March 26) on Panagi Tsaldari Street in Callithhea when a group of youths approached the unsuspecting 18-year-old to take his mobile phone. They beat him and then fled. Subsequently, the victim fainted, prompting authorities to rush to the scene. ‘My son is currently recovering; he wears a collar, takes painkillers, and is bruised all over his body, especially his neck and head. He’s in pain everywhere,’ the father of the 18-year-old stated about his child’s condition. The incident was captured on video, and six suspects have been arrested by the police so far—four boys and two girls—who are being examined for their involvement in the event. ‘When I saw the video, I felt what any father would feel seeing his son lying there. These are moments when you wish you weren’t there because you’d take the law into your own hands,’ the father of the 18-year-old remarked. The victim was treated at the hospital for several hours where necessary examinations were conducted to rule out any internal injuries caused by the beatings before being transferred home. The father described everything his son went through after the unfortunate incident and called for increased security measures in areas where such gang activities are more frequent. ‘We can’t keep our children locked inside, but we can make them aware of these dangers, encouraging them to be more cautious and use their phones as a tool to document incidents against those who attack them. Increased police patrols would better protect us,’ he mentioned.
