Today, Wednesday (7/2/2025), according to the calendar, the Feast of the Deposit of the Honorable Garments of the Mother of God in Blachernae is celebrated, as well as the memory of Juvenal, Patriarch of Jerusalem. The names celebrating today are: Juvenalis, Juvenales, Yuvanales, and Juvenalia.
*Deposit of the Honorable Garments of the Mother of God*
In the Church of Blachernae, built by Queen Pulcheria, daughter of Emperor Arcadius and wife of Emperor Marcian (451–457 AD), were deposited the swaddling clothes (grave cloths) of the Mother of God, sent by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Juvenal. Later, during the reign of Emperor Leo I the Thracian (457–474 AD), the patricians Galvius and Candidus brought the sacred garment of the Most Holy Mother of God from Jerusalem. Leo received it and placed it in the Church of Blachernae inside a golden sarcophagus. This garment remained in the church until 820 AD. However, the church burned down in 1070 AD and after being rebuilt, was accidentally burned again on January 19, 1434 AD. Nevertheless, these holy relics of the Most Holy Mother of God continue to inspire Christians to emulate her virtues.
