British royal family: What is included in the christmas table?

Christmas is a sacred tradition for everyone and the royal family is no exception to the rule. Every year on 19 or 20 December, the queen Elizabeth is transported to the Sandringham House in Norfolk and the rest of the family arrives at lunch time on Christmas eve (however, it is rumored that prince William, Kate Middleton and their children will spend Christmas day with her family, Kate).
Darren McGrady, former chef to the royal family revealed how they spend the next few days.
“When the prince of Wales arrived, the valet escorts him in the room while the gifts are placed on tables for each member of the royal family. The kings have German roots, so here are some German traditions in the celebrations. After the afternoon tea, gifts are opened, as in the German tradition. On Christmas day the family eats a good breakfast before going to church. After church they have a big meal that includes a salad with shrimp or lobster, roast turkey, all the traditional side dishes such as carrots and Brussels sprouts and christmas pudding with butter brandy for dessert. Eat the same meal every time. After that, sit and watch the christmas speech of the queen, and then they are separated and they reconvened in the afternoon for the customary tea and fruit cake and in the evening, where they have a buffet with 15-20 dishes for dinner. I don’t have hors d’oeuvres and canapes – these only eat the new Year’s eve”.
Immediately before the Christmas buffet, the chef enters the room, cuts the turkey and as soon as it ends, the queen presents him with a glass of scotch and exchange greetings. It’s the only time of the year that this happens and is one of the favorite traditions for the chef”.
However, while Buckingham palace is always decorated, the Sandringham is a private residence with minimalist decoration – there are two big christmas trees in the living room, which the family has been around for 30 years .Also, the queen loves chocolate, especially the health, and the mint, so there is always a treat.
