British Aircraft Carrier ‘Prince of Wales’ Docks in Souda Bay

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, HMS ‘Prince of Wales,’ the flagship of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, docked at the American base in Souda Bay. The British aircraft carrier, carrying 1,650 personnel, arrived for resupply and crew rest. Following its stay, the vessel is expected to participate in naval exercises in the Red Sea. As the second ship of the Queen Elizabeth class, the ‘Prince of Wales’ ranks among the most advanced and powerful carriers globally. Launched in 2017 and officially commissioned in 2021, it represents the core of Britain’s maritime power in the 21st century alongside its sister ship, HMS ‘Queen Elizabeth.’ With a displacement exceeding 65,000 tons, a length of approximately 280 meters, and the capacity to carry up to 40 aircraft including F-35B fighters, the ‘Prince of Wales’ boasts advanced detection, communication, and air defense systems. The vessel will remain in Souda Bay until May 19.
