Brazil: Head-On Collision Involving Minibus and Truck Claims 11 Lives

At least 11 people were killed and five others injured in a tragic accident when a passenger van collided with a truck in the state of Bahia, authorities announced today (31.03.2025). The deadly crash occurred as both vehicles were traveling on the Sapanta Diamantina highway in northeastern Brazil, a region known as a popular tourist destination. The minibus was carrying 16 people, nine of whom belonged to the same family returning to the city of Rui Barbosa from Boa Vista do Tupim, approximately 70 kilometers away. “Eleven people lost their lives, eight children and three adults,” said Ney Dias, mayor of Rui Barbosa, in an interview with the radio station ‘Sociedade.’ The exact cause of the accident remains unclear at this time.
