The Anti-Terrorism Unit is investigating two individuals in connection with the bomb attack outside the offices of Hellenic Train on Sygrou Avenue. Surveillance footage shows two men arriving at the location at 8 PM on Friday. The video captures them walking near the Hellenic Train offices, with one of the men attaching a bag to a column using a chain shortly before 20:15. Subsequently, both men head towards the Sygrou-Fix metro station. At 20:53, two phone calls were made to media outlets warning of the bomb and providing a 35-40 minute detonation window. Authorities believe the explosive device was constructed by someone experienced in such operations due to its complete destruction during the explosion. The explosive material used was gelignite, similar to that used in the February 2024 attack outside the Ministry of Labor on Stadiou Street, though in smaller quantities. Lawyer Theodoros Karagiannis noted that this low-intensity attack may have been intended as a message rather than to cause significant damage. He also highlighted the inadequate security measures at the Hellenic Train building, emphasizing the need for more robust protection against potential threats.
