‘Black Out The Sequel’: Dimitris Giottis’ New Comedy Takes Center Stage

Can summer exist without comedy? Absolutely not! That’s why Dimitris Giottis brings us the new ‘Black Out The Sequel,’ because sometimes a blackout is exactly what we need—to erase everything and start anew. This play, ‘Black Out The Sequel,’ comes to life as stories of everyday madness never cease. The heroes, the characters, are all around us—our neighbors, relatives, friends, acquaintances—all vying for their 15 minutes of fame as prophesied by Andy Warhol. In an era where social media dominates—Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok—we’ve become strangers in our own cities, in our own lives. We continuously post about where we are, what we eat, where we go; we post, therefore we exist…a chaotic dance on therapists’ beds. Once we had friends, now we’ve made our therapists our best friends. Stories drawn from real life reflect our daily existence with a tragicomic twist, racing at dizzying speeds until only one thing remains—a selfie of the moment. From the question of when one will become a mother to becoming an influencer, from the ‘put on your jacket’ of Greek mothers to ‘mommy is busy,’ from Madonna to Barbie and from Tonia to Panayiota, from the oppressed son to the eternal mother-in-law, from Eleftheritsa’s dreams that went astray to the loneliness that awaits everyone, especially a great actress of another era…who paces her living room, remembering roles and situations that marked her life. Yet, she always believed in the kindness of strangers. Directed by Dimitris Giottis, featuring Nelli Ginis, Dimitris Giottis, Daisie Sembekopoulou, Garyfallia Panayiotopoulou, Maria Drakopoulou, Martha Politou, this production runs for 90 minutes and will tour various festivals across the country. Premiere Friday, June 27th, at the Galatsiou Festival in Alsos Beikou Theater.
