Besiktas Issues Strong Condemnation
The Turkish club swiftly issued an official statement condemning the banner as “shameful and provocative,” accusing it of targeting Besiktas itself, its supporters, the Turkish police, and Turkey’s national and moral values. Describing the display as an “unacceptable attack,” Besiktas emphasized that it was not merely directed against the club but constituted a clear act of hatred aimed at the honor, history, and sacred values of the Turkish nation.
Athletic Spirit Undermined
In its statement, Besiktas stressed that no sports organization or platform can legitimize hostility, racism, or insults against national values. It rejected outright what it called an “immoral and outrageous” act that tarnishes the unifying spirit of sport. The club confirmed it has initiated all necessary legal and administrative steps with Euroleague Basketball to ensure those responsible face strict sanctions and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
