Belgium Ready to Send Troops to Ukraine – Putin’s Peace Terms Deemed Unacceptable

Belgium appears ready to send troops to Ukraine in order to contribute to the peace process. This was stated by Bart de Wever after the completion of a teleconference organized by British Prime Minister Kir Starmer on Saturday morning (15/03/2025), with Belgium being among the ‘willing’ countries to contribute to peace in Ukraine. The Belgian Prime Minister, speaking on the channel ‘VRT,’ emphasized that although achieving a solution acceptable to Ukraine is not close and ‘the terms currently set by the Russian president for a peace agreement are unacceptable,’ Belgium is willing to participate with military force if a peaceful resolution is reached. ‘We all agree that the best guarantee for the security of Ukraine and Europe is a strong Ukrainian army in an independent Ukraine. Any solution that reduces this is unacceptable, and everyone wants to further strengthen Ukraine in the short term,’ declared the Belgian Prime Minister. A ‘big question mark’ remains regarding the stance of the United States. Bart de Wever, when asked about the U.S.’s position on the matter, mentioned that ‘this is a big question mark’ and that American involvement is essential as Europe does not have comparable military resources. As he said, ‘the best situation would naturally be American participation, and if not fully, at least with a “backstop.” This means they will be present and contribute to securing the operation. Without American involvement, it’s an extremely difficult issue. Unfortunately, Europe does not possess all the necessary military resources.’ Finally, the Belgian Prime Minister mentioned that next Thursday, military representatives will meet in the UK to examine practical security assurance plans following a potential discovery of a peaceful resolution.
