Because Crete was named… Crete?

Crete is The mythical Curetes, was, according to mythology, the first inhabitants of Crete. Five brothers, Hercules (just a coincidence with the demigod of the twelve labours), the Παιωναίος, the Επιμίδης, the Iasios and the Screw, which is not born, but sprang from the earth when wetted, the first tears of the newborn Zeus. According to another version, the Curetes helped Rhea give birth to Zeus inside a cave in Crete, and undertook to make noise, banging drums and metal shields every time the baby cried, so as not to reach the noise in the ears of Saturn.
Macedonia Two different theories are prevalent about the origin of the name of Macedonia. The first wants the chieftain of the tribe that first settled in the western, southern and central Macedonia, have been baptized in the name of (Macedon). The second is the last name μακεδνός, who uses Homer to describe a type of poplar tree, and which, according to the lexicographer Ησύχιο of Alexandria is the doric word (according to Herodotus, the Macedonians were a dorian tribe) which means big or heavenly.
Larissa Ετυμολογικός puzzle to scholars, the word larissa was used by the Pelasgians to describe the stone citadel, or fortress –Larissa was the name of the Citadel of Argos. The fact that they have not been found in the town traces that fit this description, has lead historians to believe that the name came from elsewhere and was given in” euphemism. In the mythological version, however, Larissa was the wife of Poseidon and mother of the Achaean, of Phthia and of Pelasgus.
Zagoria Simplest things here. The etymology of the word is slavic: Za means “behind” and Gora ” is mountain, so the villages behind the mountain, a straight reference to the position of the villages, in accordance with the tonwtiko.
Wisconsin The medieval name of the ancient city Φεραί, and remained until our days, comes from the miraculous icon of the Virgin mary kalomata, which was kept in a byzantine monastery in the region –and which the legend wants to make even the ottoman aga, the barn of which was discovered, to convert, thanks to the wonders she saw made. The image still exists, and is stored in the interior of the Church of the Visitation.
