Avian influenza: Greece on alert following an H5N1 incident in Bulgaria

Greek veterinary services are on alert after H5N1 appears in Bulgaria. As the sources of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food point out, Bulgaria’s veterinary services informed the Greek authorities of the outbreak of avian influenza (H5N1). As noted by the current clinical picture in Greek poultry farming does not inspire concern. However, given the trade flows of the neighbouring country with Greece, the Greek veterinary services were immediately put on alert. The local Directorates for Rural Economy and Veterinary (ADOK) have already received clear instructions for conducting preventive checks and taking samples to be sent for laboratory analyses to the National Reference Laboratory.
