Austria: Foreign Minister Alexander Salenberg New Service Chancellor

The political crisis in the continues with the country having a new service in an attempt to form a government. Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Salenberg was sworn in today (10.01,2025) a service chancellor, succeeding his conservative colleague Carl Nehamer who resigned last weekend after failing his efforts to form a central coalition government without the far right. The present government under the People’s Party (ÖVP) acts as a service after the September parliamentary election, won by the far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ). The FPÖ has received a government formation mandate and is expected to begin today discussions on a coalition with ÖVP.
