Attica primary school restores uniform to students to face inequality

To restore the students to deal with the inequality that students may feel, the Association of Parents of a particular Municipal of Attica proposed, causing the parents’ reactions. The Primary School Parents and Guardians Association made the proposal to reinstate the student uniform both to have uniformity and to face the improper dress of the students from the last classes. Vote for the uniform’s reinstatement Last week the parents of the children of that school received a card from the Parents’ Association asking if they wish to sign for student uniforms to return. “We would like your participation to realise an idea that has started since last year. It concerns the dress uniformity of the students with the school emblem marked giving them an upgraded school profile,” wrote the letter. Association secretary Joanna Rummeliotis explained: “We’re talking about a hoodie and a sweatshirt. Not for last decade uniforms. We’re in the mood to ask the parents if they want to. It’s not mandatory.” Apart from clothes – brands that seem to create insecurity for students who do not wear them, the second reason the proposal was decided to be made is more serious. Primary school students seem to choose inappropriate dress for the school environment. “At school they decided because some fifth- and sixth-grade kids were coming in mini – instead of catching parents and talking to them – decided to do school clothing. They sometimes come in short dresses and stuff,” he said. “I spoke to the principal and told him what you were doing is illegal. And he turns around and says “it is not mandatory, it is optional”. And I answer “what does that mean?” Do you understand what’s going on at this school? He will be bullying,” said a student’s mother. The school apron has been abolished since 1982 and there is no legislation prohibiting its use. Regarding the specific school of Attica, the Association explains that it is not mandatory for students to dress in uniform and can only be done by those who wish. Until now the measure has not been implemented as parents’ signatures are counted.
