Atromitos – Athens Kallithea 1-2: First Away Win for Visitors in This Season’s Super League

Athens Kallithea achieved a significant victory at Atromitos’ home ground, winning 2-1 in the 22nd round of this season’s Super League. With this win, they increased their lead over relegation contender Lamia and broke Atromitos’ winning streak. The three points earned against Atromitos brought Athens Kallithea to 18 points in this year’s Super League, now trailing Lamia by nine points. Meanwhile, Atromitos remains on 28 points, sitting one point behind Panaitolikos and one ahead of OFI. Hero of the match was Giannis Gkelios, who spectacularly saved a Warda penalty in the 83rd minute. Pasalis scored in the 9th minute, followed by Valbuena’s successful penalty in the 45th minute, marking the first away double of the season for Athens Kallithea (who previously had five draws and five losses on the road). Tsakmakis reduced the deficit to 1-2 in the 76th minute with a header from a corner. A VAR review led to a penalty call in the 81st minute, but Warda’s attempt was impressively blocked by Gkelios. Despite Atromitos’ late pressure, including a near goal from a direct corner in stoppage time, Athens Kallithea held firm to celebrate an important 2-1 victory.
