Athens Stock Exchange Opens Down 1.08% – European Markets Also Slide

Stock prices declined at the opening of today’s (5 February 2026) Athens Stock Exchange session. The market corrected after three consecutive gains, during which the benchmark index rose by a cumulative 3.98%. Trading value on the Athens Exchange stands at €32.68 million. Among large-cap stocks, Lamda Development (+2.02%) and HELPE (+0.75%) posted the strongest gains. At 11:00, the General Price Index stood at 2,381.09 points, down 1.08%. The large-cap index fell 1.17%, while the mid-cap index edged down 0.14%. Of the listed stocks, 26 rose, 56 declined, and 17 remained unchanged. Top gainers included Sarantopoulos Mills (+10.00%) and Lamda Development (+2.02%), while Ilida (-3.70%) and Mouzakis (K) (-3.28%) led the decliners. Other notable losers were National Bank (-1.91%), Alpha Bank (-1.88%), PPC (-1.56%), and OPAP (-1.39%). Across Europe, markets also opened lower: the pan-European STOXX 600 dropped 0.44%, the UK’s FTSE 100 fell 0.36%, Germany’s DAX slid 0.37%, Italy’s FTSE MIB declined 0.36%, and Spain’s IBEX 35 plunged 1.06%. France’s CAC 40 rose marginally by 0.10%.
