Athens Stock Exchange: General Index Rises Amid Mixed European Signals

Mild upward trends were recorded at the start of trading today (5.5.2025) in Athens. The General Index of Prices on the Greek stock exchange stands at 1,730.21 units with an increase of 0.24%. Trading value is formed at 10.4 million euros across 2.32 million shares traded through 4,055 transactions. Of the 102 stock titles that have moved so far, 66 show gains and 24 declines while 12 remain unchanged from their closing levels during the last session. Among the major financial indices, the ‘heavy’ FTSE high-capitalization index records marginal gains of 0.01%, whereas the FTSEM mid-cap index shows a rise of 0.56%. Among individual stocks, the most significant price increase is seen in the share of Naupactus Textile Industry with gains of 7.36%, followed by Xyloemportia (p) with gains of 7.14%. On the opposite end, the largest price drop is observed in the share of Europe Holdings at -6.17%, followed by Domiki Crete at -3.42%. European exchanges saw declines at the start of trading as investors await more details about U.S.-China trade negotiations. The pan-European STOXX 600 index records a gain of 0.10%. London markets are closed due to a holiday. The DAX in Frankfurt moves positively at +0.42%, while the French CAC 40 drops by -0.42%, and the Italian FTSE MIB slightly decreases by -0.02%. The Spanish IBEX 35 increases by 0.34%. Investors are also focused on company earnings reports and the Federal Reserve’s meeting on interest rates later this week.
