A major operation by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) took place on the morning of Thursday, 25 June 2026, across residential areas of Aspropyrgos — a town west of Athens known for industrial activity and periodic challenges with organized crime and illegal infrastructure use. The operation targeted widespread lawbreaking, including electricity theft and traffic violations.

Six Arrested, Over 2.6 Kilometres of Illegal Cabling Removed

Six individuals were arrested on suspicion of electricity theft and violations of Greece’s Road Traffic Code. During the raids, officers conducted searches in private homes and seized two high-power speakers and a hunting carbine.

Simultaneously, a team from the Public Power Corporation (PPC), formerly DEHDHE, dismantled a total of 2,657 metres of illegally installed wiring used to siphon electricity. Authorities also identified 28 cases of unauthorized connections to the national power grid in residential properties.

Widespread Traffic Enforcement

In parallel, traffic enforcement efforts resulted in 36 violations being recorded — including driving without a licence, failure to wear seatbelts, and lack of mandatory vehicle inspections (KTEO). Three vehicle registration certificates and 14 driver’s licences were revoked.

Multifaceted Police Response

The operation involved personnel from multiple ELAS units: the Immediate Response Unit (OPKE), the DIAS tactical unit, the Organized Crime Division (OPDI), and the Traffic Police. An operational police dog and a drone were also deployed to support surveillance and coordination.

A formal case file has been submitted to the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office for further judicial proceedings.
