Tax-free: Children and… αποπαίδια! The members pay 5 times the lowest taxes!

The… “children” (members) and from the other the… “αποπαίδια” (taxpayers)….
The men enjoy privileges that the same vote, don’t put your hand deep into your pocket and you don’t… enjoy privileges.
Revealing is an article in the Free Press of Sunday, in accordance with which the Greek members pay up to five times less tax than the common mortals. According to the publication, members enjoy tax-free up to 77% of their income!
Amounts corresponding to from 25% to 77% of the net income from their activities in the Parliament are exempt from income tax. For the same income, a citizen who is not a member pays up to a 4.9 times higher tax!
The tax breaks
As is apparent from data published by Free Press, the members enjoy the following benefits and allowances:
1. The amount of the parliamentary allowance is eur 5.780 euro per month and in 69.360 per year (5.780 euro X 12 = 69.360 euro). To this amount is added, and the marriage allowance, which amounts to 35 euros a month or 420 euros a year. Before subjecting to tax the amount of the parliamentary allowance shall be deducted the amount of the reservation for health care and social security, as well as any amounts attributed to the party. The total amount of the reservation these can reach up to the levels of 24.250 euro. The remaining balance, after deduction of the booking of these, is the total net income of the member.

Further, in the liquidation of the income tax, is deducted from the net income of the 25% of the gross amount of the parliamentary allowance as the implied annual expenditure to meet the needs of lease of political offices, and other needs for the exercise of the inauguration of the stakeholders ‘ function. The deductible amount (to be subtracted from the net taxable salary) amounts specifically 17.445 euro (69.360 euro X 25% = 17.445 euro)!
In addition, in the liquidation of the income tax, the annual net taxable compensation of the member shall be deducted as additional tax-exempt, an amount of € 10.868 euro, which corresponds to the monthly allowance library height 905,66 euro (12 X 905,66 euro = 10.868 euro)!
2. Beyond the parliamentary compensation, each member shall be granted the following allowances, which are tax-free (without supporting documents):
– Allowance organization of the office: 936 euros a month or 11.230 per year (936 euros X 12 = 11.230 million).

– Compensation of travel expenses: 364 euros a month or 4.368 per year (364 euros X 12 = 4.368 million).
– Postage: 1.136,64 euro a month or 13.632 per year (1.136,64 euro X 12 = 13.632 million).
– Compensation for participation in committees, summer parts, control panels of the finances of political parties, members of parliament and statements of financial condition.
Based on the above data, the total net amount of the annual income from the parliamentary activity of each mp can reach the 74.760 euro, excluding compensation for participation in committees, summer school etc.
Of this amount, the final taxable may be limited only on 17.217 million and the tax-free amount to reach 57.543 euro! That is, the taxable amount can be reduced to only 23% of the total annual net income, and tax-free to reach the 77%!
For a net income of eur 74.760 euros a member pays income tax and special solidarity contribution corresponding to the amount of 17.217 euro! On the basis of the currently valid scales for calculation of income tax and special solidarity contribution, the total amount of taxes that pays for a member without dependent children for income 74.760 euros from parliamentary activity is just 5.967,14 euro, since it is only charged for 17.217 euro, while for the rest of the 57.543 euro is exempt from income tax.
On the other hand, annual net income from salaried services amounting to 74.760 euro a citizen today is paying income tax and special solidarity contribution totalling € 29.190,37 euros!
