Arta: Heartfelt Farewell by Students and Teachers for the 12-Year-Old

Educators, classmates, neighbors, and friends gathered on Tuesday (June 17, 2025), to bid a final farewell to the 12-year-old who tragically lost his life in the river. Flowers and drawings adorned the small white coffin as it passed through the gates of Neochorion Primary School in Arta. Everyone stood still to honor the memory of the boy who drowned in the Arachthos River alongside his 14-year-old friend who tried to save him. Messages like ‘We miss you already,’ ‘Play ball up there too,’ and ‘You were our best friend’ were written by his classmates, who could not hold back their tears as they placed them on the child’s coffin. A teacher sang ‘Christ is Risen,’ and at the end, his teacher, with tears and a trembling voice, announced: ‘He is promoted honorably to the sixth grade. He is promoted to the eternity of our childhood memories!’ The funeral procession traveled to Albania, where the burial will take place on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), with the boy’s family deeply grieving. Amidst their sorrow, earlier that Tuesday morning, the procedure for organ donation was completed at the University Hospital of Patras. Nisi donated his kidneys, heart, lungs, liver, and corneas.
