Authorities arrested a 57-year-old woman on Sunday, 28 June 2026, for allegedly starting a deliberate fire in Corinthia. The blaze broke out at 6:46 p.m. in dry grassland in the region.

Investigation Leads to Arrest

Fire service investigators launched an on-site inquiry into the cause of the incident and quickly identified the suspect. According to findings, she used an open flame to ignite the dry vegetation, triggering the fire. She was taken into custody immediately and is scheduled to appear before the competent prosecutor today.

The remaining 125 cases — 93.28% — involved fires caused by negligence.

Ongoing Enforcement Efforts

The Fire Service’s Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) and its investigative units remain on high operational alert. They continue conducting intensive inspections and swiftly pursuing criminal and administrative liability wherever legal violations are detected.
