Arrests in Volos and Thessaloniki for pornography and proposal of lewd acts on a 17-year-old

Were arrested Tuesday afternoon in the city of Volos and Thessaloniki, by the police of the Division for Security of Volos in cooperation with the cyber Crime unit of Northern Greece, a 45-year-old national and a 19-year-old alien, a national of Albania, at whose expense it was formed of a case for pornography of minors and the attempted insult of sexual dignity, through the internet.
In particular, as ascertained in the context of a thorough police investigation, the two perpetrators, having created a profile on a social networking website with fake data, approached 17-year-old and they communicated with him, in order to persuade him either to send personal pictures with obscene content, or to accept proposals concerning lewd acts for money.
After immediate mobilization and coordinated actions of the police officers of the Security sub-Division of Volos, the 19-year-old was arrested in Volos, where he had gone to pick up the 17-year-old, with a view then to go to a hotel in Thessaloniki, where they expected the 45-year-old.
Subsequently, officers of Department of Prosecution of Electronic Crime in Northern Greece, spotted the 45-year-old at the hotel and arrested him.
In the possession of the detainees found and seized two mobile phones with a multitude of files of pornography of minors.
The arrested individuals will be brought to the competent public Prosecutors, while the preliminary investigation conducted by the Security Sub-directorate of Volos.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Thessaly, in the framework of preventive and social role, gives helpful tips to all citizens and in particular young people and their parents, in order to navigate safely and to avoid the dangers lurking on the internet.
The internet educates and entertains. However, it can create problems if there is unaccountability in the way in which it is used.
Advice for young people:
· Never give anyone, even your best friend, your password to the internet. The only people who should know your password are your parents.
· Don’t answer emails that make you feel “uncomfortable”. In the event that you get such a message, don’t hesitate to tell your parents or a person you trust.
· If you feel uncomfortable while you’re having a conversation via chatroom interrupted the conversation immediately.
· Avoid sending your photo and personal details of your via the internet to an unknown.
· Think very well before you decide to meet with a person you met on the internet. He asked the opinion of your parents on this issue.
· In the event that you decide to meet with the “online friend”, informed your parents or someone you trust and make sure that this meeting be in a public place.
· Developed a critical attitude to what you read on the internet. Don’t trust what you see on the internet.
Tips for parents:
· Prefer to place your Pc in places, such as your living room and not in bedrooms. So you will have the ability to supervise your child, without making them feel controlled.
· Make surfing the internet a family activity. Use the H/H together with your children.
· Educate your children about the dangers that exist when you converse with strangers via chatrooms.
· Talk with your children about safety issues (communication with dangerous people, access to sites with harmful content) resulting from the navigation on the internet.
· Teach them not to give out personal information without your permission (surname, name, age, address, phone number, family income, and even hours of school, names of friends etc.) and don’t use your card.
· Never allow your children to meet with people you have known through the internet.
· Teach them to deny themselves to meet personally with people they have met on the internet. Explain to them that the strangers with whom they want to meet can be dangerous.
· Use the so-called “filters”, which are special software products for the purpose of preventing access to undesirable sites (sites with violence, pornography).
· Check the content of audiovisual material such as CDs, floppy disks etc., that your children buy or exchange with their friends.
