A 54-year-old Ukrainian man wanted in his home country for real estate fraud involving municipal properties in Odessa has been arrested in Greece. Captured in Arnaia, Chalkidiki, the suspect was heading towards Mount Athos when apprehended on Thursday afternoon (18.06.25). He was brought before the Thessaloniki Appeals Prosecutor’s Office today, where it was decided to hold him until the relevant Judicial Council determines his extradition to Ukraine. According to Ukrainian authorities’ prosecution documents, he is accused of forming and joining a criminal organization, fraud, and forgery. The criminal proceedings were initiated by the Regional Court of Odessa. Reports indicate that the 54-year-old served as an elected municipal councilor in Odessa, with alleged misconduct tied to his long-term involvement in the city’s permanent property committee. Alongside accomplices, he is accused of arbitrarily managing immovable assets, causing damage to municipal property. During questioning by the prosecutor, the man denied all charges and expressed unwillingness to be extradited to Ukraine. The Thessaloniki Council of Appeals will convene soon to decide on his extradition.
