An armed and dramatic police chase unfolded early Wednesday (8/7/2026) in Argos, resulting in a driver being shot after attempting to flee—and deliberately ram—police vehicles. According to Hellenic Police (ELAS), the suspect failed to stop when signaled by officers in Argos and instead accelerated, triggering the pursuit.
During the chase, the driver attempted to collide with police patrol cars while officers were inside. The vehicle was eventually cornered by multiple patrol units, which—per ELAS—were struck by the suspect’s car. The driver then abandoned the vehicle on foot and tried to escape by climbing over a stone wall.
Two officers opened fire, striking the man. An EKAB ambulance rushed him to a local hospital before he was transferred to a hospital in Attica, where he remains hospitalized.
Air Pistol Recovered at Scene
Near the initial traffic stop location, authorities located and seized an air pistol. The weapon has been sent to the Hellenic Police’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations for forensic analysis.
Two Officers Arrested, Disciplinary Probe Underway
The incident was immediately reported to the competent prosecutor. As part of the on-the-spot investigation, the two involved officers were arrested. A criminal file is being prepared against them for violations of weapons legislation and grievous bodily harm.
A parallel disciplinary inquiry has also been launched to determine the precise circumstances under which the shooting occurred. The Nauplion Department of Crime Investigation and Detection, assisted by the Directorate of Forensic Expertise, is conducting the preliminary investigation.
