An exclusive video obtained by newsit.gr captures the tense moments of a high-speed police chase involving a 20-year-old man in central Argos, Peloponnese. The footage shows patrol cars pursuing the young man’s vehicle shortly before he was critically injured by 13 gunshots fired by Hellenic Police (ELAS) officers.
Chase Across Argos and Surrounding Areas
The pursuit began in the Pyrgela area and lasted approximately 35 minutes, winding through several neighborhoods of Argos—including Elliniko, the local airport zone, Stathaiika, Monastiraki—and ending at a supermarket parking lot where the suspect’s car was finally immobilized by police units.
After his vehicle was blocked, the young man exited the car and jumped over a perimeter wall into an adjacent plot containing an abandoned building. It was at this point that officers opened fire. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. A total of 13 spent shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Critical Condition at KAT Hospital
The 20-year-old was initially treated at Thriasio General Hospital before being transferred to the Athens General Hospital ‘KAT’ in Marousi. His condition remains extremely critical: he is intubated, under sedation, and receiving mechanical respiratory support. Medical staff have described him as being in a state of near-brain death.
According to the attending physician from Thriasio who first received the patient, the young man arrived unconscious, with a penetrating gunshot wound entering the occipital region of the skull. He underwent emergency surgery to remove one bullet from his head. His mother remains by his side.
Police Account and Prior Arrest
Authorities stated that during the chase, officers observed the suspect in possession of a firearm. They claim they fired warning shots before opening fire directly after seeing him fall to the ground—though visual evidence from the site includes bullet marks on nearby walls.
This is not the young man’s first encounter with law enforcement. In a prior arrest, police found a metal knuckle duster, a baton, and a police-style flashlight inside the car he was driving.
