The Interior Security Minister of Argentina announced today (May 29, 2025) that 12 suspects linked to the notorious Tren de Aragua organization, classified as ‘terroristic’ in the country, have been arrested. “This is an extremely dangerous gang, and today 12 of its members were taken to prison in Argentina,” stated Minister Patricia Bullrich during a press conference in Buenos Aires. The minister noted that the gang had carried out violent attacks on shops using weapons and explosives, resulting in casualties in some cases. In February, the U.S. Department of State included Tren de Aragua—a criminal organization originating in Venezuela that has spread across Latin America—on its list of terrorist organizations, emphasizing its threat to national security, foreign policy, and economic interests of the U.S. The Venezuelan government claims that Tren de Aragua, which started as a prison gang before expanding, was dismantled through coordinated operations in 2023 and no longer exists.
