Greek political figure Aphrodite Latinopoulou appeared as a guest on Giorgos Lagios’s talk show The Love Debate by Lagios, where she responded to a series of personal and provocative questions—reigniting controversy with her remarks about the Roma community.
A Controversial Hypothetical
When asked a hypothetical scenario—what she would do if stranded on an island inhabited solely by Roma people and forced to choose one as a partner—Latinopoulou replied bluntly: “They’re Gypsies. There is no trait, nothing in the world that would make me choose any of them. I’d rather leave the island and swim with the sharks—or, in other words, I’d commit suicide.”
Other Remarks Draw Attention
Earlier in the interview, she dismissed the idea of dating a younger man, stating unequivocally: “I wouldn’t date a younger man.” She also addressed public perceptions of her image, saying: “I haven’t built a career—and I’m not building one—as a beautiful woman. And I don’t like the term ‘kitten’ either.”
Lagios later posed another tongue-in-cheek dilemma: if she were stuck on an island with only Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, whom would she spend the night with? Her reply was immediate: “I’d rather spend the night with the sharks.”

Referencing recent political developments—including the emergence of new parties led by Tsipras and Karytsiotis—Latinopoulou claimed voter support would soon validate her movement’s strength: “The ballot box will show we’ll be in Parliament—and with a very strong percentage. Clearly, we differ from all the others currently in existing parties, because they’re all cut from the same cloth.”
