Former Prime Minister and President of New Democracy, Antonis Samaras, is currently visiting Mount Athos since Sunday, June 1, 2025. He was welcomed by the monks at Simonopetra Monastery and Vatopedi Monastery. According to ekklisiaonline.gr, Samaras spent Sunday night at the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra on Mount Athos and visited Elder Ephraim of Vatopedi Monastery, who gave him his blessing. Additionally, the former prime minister participated in liturgical services and is expected to meet with other abbots of holy monasteries. When asked if he intends to establish a new political party, Samaras told those present that ‘many ask if I’m starting a party, and they will continue to ask.’ Antonis Samaras will spend the night again at Simonopetra Monastery and on Tuesday will make a pilgrimage to the Holy Monastery of Xeropotamou.
