Laughter has always been a form of medicine for Anna Koutsafadiki, even in the most difficult times. As she revealed during an interview on ANT1’s ‘The Weekenders’ with Thanasis Patrik and Dimitris Panopoulos, humor played a significant role in how she coped with her father’s passing. In church, during the funeral service, she experienced a bout of nervous laughter, which she described as an oxymoron but explained that tragic moments often carry humor within them. ‘I am someone who loves the humor of human existence,’ said the actress, emphasizing that comedy and tragedy are two sides of the same coin. She further highlighted that humor is her survival mechanism, a defense strategy, and the best therapeutic tool for communicating with others. ‘I made jokes at my father’s funeral,’ she confessed, adding that such laughter can be a substitute for crying. She recounted how an elderly priest struggling to speak during the liturgy triggered uncontrollable nervous laughter with her sister. Additionally, Koutsafadiki mentioned that three months after her father’s death, she found out she was pregnant, preventing her from fully grieving. This complex period ultimately helped her understand herself better.
