Putting the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnector at the center of its foreign policy and defense agenda, PASOK and party leader Nikos Androulakis reignited political debate following back-to-back meetings with Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.
A Priority Issue for Political Accountability
Androulakis made clear that PASOK is placing the Greece-Cyprus power link at the top of its political agenda — demanding concrete answers from the government on the project’s future and timeline. He stressed the need for transparency, urging the administration to be ‘honest and consistent’ toward the Greek public.
Speaking from Kassos earlier this week, Androulakis raised direct questions about the interconnector — including whether it will be completed and what the definitive schedule is — noting that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has yet to respond. ‘The occupant of Maximos Mansion doesn’t just need to pick up the phone at 3 a.m.,’ he said, ‘but above all must effectively defend our sovereign rights and act with honesty and consistency toward the Greek people.’
Meetings with Gerapetritis and Dendias
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, Androulakis held successive meetings with both ministers — thanking them for their engagement. He emphasized that PASOK approaches foreign policy and national defense issues responsibly, with the protection of national interests as its top priority.
He reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to international law, peace, and stability — standing firm against any form of revisionism, threat, or aggression.
‘National Issues Belong to No Single Government’
During the meeting at the Ministry of National Defense, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias underscored the importance of keeping political parties — especially the official opposition — informed on defense developments and Greece’s ‘Agenda 2030’. ‘These are national issues,’ he stated, ‘not the property of any one government or party.’
A detailed briefing followed in the ‘Kapodistrias’ hall of the ministry, delivered by the professional leadership of the Hellenic Armed Forces on matters of national defense and the operational structure of the armed forces.
