Androulakis Launches Sharp Counterattack Against ND: “Katakouzinos Is a Fabricated Journalist in ND’s Political Assassination Bid”

The PASOK party has entered a sharp counteroffensive following the unprecedented personal attack by Adonis Georgiadis on Nikos Androulakis — and others — over a family-owned property leased to the Hellenic Cadastre. The controversy ignited a war of press releases between government and opposition figures, including Charilaos Trikoupis, Adonis Georgiadis, and Pavlos Marinakis, escalating into heated exchanges across political lines.

Androulakis Responds Point by Point

Last night (14 May 2026), Androulakis addressed the issue directly, systematically dismantling the government’s narrative around the property. He clarified key points: whether the property belongs solely to him; whether it was leased due to favouritism by former Prime Minister George Papandreou; how much rent he received; whether renovations were needed; and whether funds were transferred abroad — among other claims.

A Second Attempt at Moral Elimination

He then accused the ruling New Democracy (ND) party of orchestrating a second campaign of moral and political elimination — echoing earlier illegal surveillance scandals, where he himself had exposed the wrongdoing, yet was pressured to justify his actions while those responsible or complicit remained unaccountable.

Androulakis denounced what he called ND’s “media parallel state”, accusing it of staging a new operation aimed at his political assassination and moral destruction — both built on defamation.

“Katakouzinos” Exposed as a Fictional Byline

Speaking on the Action24 programme, Androulakis questioned fellow journalists whether they knew a reporter named “Mr. Katakouzinos” — the purported author of the article that triggered the entire controversy earlier that day on a specific website.

He recounted how PASOK’s communications team contacted the site’s editor-in-chief, only to be told that “Mr. Tsoukalas” — a known ND-affiliated figure — had called requesting a direct conversation. When PASOK insisted on speaking with the named author to correct factual errors and address defamatory content, they were met with silence.

Androulakis revealed there is no such journalist named Katakouzinos — not one affiliated with serious investigative reporting. The name, he claimed, is a fabrication — a reference to a fictional Byzantinist character from the popular Greek TV series Konstantinos & Eleni, created by Haris Romas. “Katakouzinos is a fake,” he stated bluntly.

He alleged that ND’s media apparatus planted the story on a friendly outlet, after which Georgiadis, pro-government media, and the so-called “Truth Team” amplified it — using falsehoods to launch yet another coordinated political and reputational assault.

A Rhetorical Challenge to the Prime Minister

When asked — in response to an earlier rhetorical question posed by government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis — what would happen if the Prime Minister were in his position, Androulakis delivered a pointed rebuttal:

“Mitsotakis cannot be in my place. Because I neither set up the Predator spyware parallel state, nor the wiretapping parallel state. I am not being blackmailed by Dilian. Nor am I being blackmailed by my own nephew — who published an article two days ago in Real News claiming: ‘I sacrificed myself for the good of the party; I took it all upon myself.’ Nor am I the one who uses Article 86 to block judicial scrutiny when criminal complaints are filed against me.”
